The COSMOS Project

COSMOS is a five year European Research Council (ERC) project on Computational Shaping and Modeling of Musical Structures (Grant agreement no. 788960).

Principal Investigator: Elaine Chew

Host Institution: Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique **(CNRS)

Laboratory: Sciences and Technologies of Music and Sound (STMS)

Address: Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM), 1 place Igor-Stravinsky, 75004 Paris, FRANCE

Website: https://cosmos.cnrs.fr

Keywords: Music performance, musical structures, cardiac arrhythmia

Main project branches

There are three main branches to the COSMOS project:

1. Perception

To research problem solving in the perception and cognition of musical structures, taking advantage of crowdsourcing to amass data requiring human cognitive abilities.

2. Analysis

To develop a novel methodological framework for computational music structure analysis in the context of music performance, with extensions to cardiac signals.

3. Creation

To investigate decision making in the act of shaping performed structures through software based sandbox environments.
